Academic West
Zartman Construction built a new 70,000 square foot facility on Bucknell University’s campus. The building consists of numerous office, classroom and study spaces designed to promote collaboration and networking.
The project included extensive site work with erosion and sedimentary work, demolition of abandoned utilities and a building, site and stormwater improvements, road development, parking, sidewalks and landscaping. Construction also included all new underground utility infrastructure.
Smart classrooms are a key feature of the facility. The rooms allow users to control lighting, shades, projectors, media devices, a webcam and a document camera from a single touch screen.
Academic West is a LEED Silver certified building. Green building features include specialized storm water management which is camouflaged as a series of rain gardens, an 8,000 square foot vegetated roof spread with succulent plants to absorb rainfall and provide insulation, enhanced lighting controls, daylighting and energy efficient operating systems.
